The Elementary Basketball League (EBL) began as a vision in 2012, when Coach Jason Lewis, a dedicated coach, mentor and leader within the Houston Independent School District (HISD) began hosting EBL and set out to create more than just a basketball program. He believed in building character and equipping young students with skills that would serve them far beyond sports—integrity, resilience, and a spirit of teamwork. Guided by this vision, EBL quickly grew into a space where kids could experience the joy of sports while discovering their potential.
In 2022, the league embraced an exciting new chapter. With the collaboration of Wade Hopkins and Pervis Hall with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), EBL expanded its reach and impact. Together, Jason, Wade and Pervis worked to build a program that not only elevates young athletes but also instills a foundation of faith, leadership, and community responsibility.
Today, EBL stands as a powerful platform for 3rd through 5th graders to grow both as athletes and as individuals. Through basketball, mentorship, and a commitment to their future, the league continues to inspire young leaders to dream big, pursue excellence, and make a difference in the world around them.
